Wrightington Team visit Royal Orthopaedic Hospital for Walk-Through of JointCare Service

posted 10 th Jul 2019

Providing a space where member organisations across the country can share and learn from each other is at the heart of the National Orthopaedic Alliance’s (NOA) offering. Following a presentation at NOA’s most recently held quarterly meeting by the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (ROH) about the Trust’s hip and knee replacement service, JointCare - a group from fellow NOA member, Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust (WWL) visited ROH to find out more about the programme.

The visit, which was hosted by JointCare manager, Alicia Stanton and Interim Deputy Chief Operating Officer, Marie Raftery who presented at the NOA meeting, was an opportunity for the WWL team to have a first-hand walk through of the service.

Lucy Currie, Senior Transformation Manager at Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh (WWL) Foundation Trust said: “The visit was definitely a positive experience. It was useful to be able to speak with Alicia and Marie in more detail about JointCare and to have the opportunity to experience some aspects of the patient pathway for ourselves. Sitting in on the group physio session was a real highlight.”

ROH JointCare Project Manager, Alicia Stanton, said: “ROH has a long history of spreading best practice in orthopaedics and it was a pleasure to be able to host WWL representatives during their recent visit to our hospital.  The visit was mutually beneficial for the ROH JointCare team as we were able to exchange ideas on addressing obstacles when rolling out this sort of programme. We look forward to continuing discussions with WWL as we work together to improve the quality of care for orthopaedic patients.”

Ann Hoey, NOA Deputy Director said: “Encouraging members to work and learn from each other is one of the foundations of the NOA’s offering, and forums such as our quarterly meetings have been instrumental in supporting this. I’m delighted that ROH and WWL have made this connection, and the NOA looks forward to continuing to support this kind of sharing and buddying.”

The team from ROH will be visiting Wrightington Hospital, which is WWL’S dedicated orthopaedic centre,  in the near future.

Marie Armstrong, Orthopaedic Matron at Wrightington Hospital, added:  “I am really excited to show the ROH them around Wrightington Hospital and share our patient pathway with them.

“This is a great opportunity to further develop our relationship and continue to share best practice, which will ultimately benefit both of our hospitals and patients.”

Since its founding, the NOA has grown into a strong network which exists to give members the tools they need to deliver high quality orthopaedic care for patients nationwide. Through our programme of quarterly meetings, training days, workshops and events, we work to create spaces where members can share experiences and best practice.
